5. Aaron5 Crowson (William4, John3, William2, Robert1) (#112) was born in Johnston/Jones Co, North Carolina March 28, 1773. Aaron died February 18, 1849 in Sevier County Tennessee - Wears Valley, at 74 years of age.

He married Jane Barnes in Sevier County Tennessee, March 14, 1798. (Jane Barnes is #138.) Jane was born August 30, 1774. Jane died August 30, 1849 in Sevier County Tennessee - Wears Valley, at 75 years of age. At 35 years of age Jane became the mother of Richard West Crowson in Sevier County Tennessee - Wears Valley, July 8, 1810.

At 37 years of age Aaron became the father of Richard West Crowson in Sevier County Tennessee - Wears Valley, July 8, 1810. In the year 1794, before there were white people living in Wears Valley, Aaron Crowson and Peter Percefield were exploring the Valley on horseback one day when they were attacked by hostile Indians. Crowson was only 17 years old at the time, and Percefield was approximately the same age. Percefield was killed in this incident and Crows0n the rode for help at Waldens Creek.  Aaron, his older brother Richard, his father Will and several
other men rode back to the Valley to search for the Indians. Just as it was beginning to get dark, the Indians started
shooting. Aaron Crowson fired one shot, and killed one of the Indians. When the other white men joined the battle, the
Indians retreated into the forest and disappeared in the darkness. Percefield's tomb-stone in the Crowson Family
Cemetary is inscribed "Percefield--Killed by Indians -- 1794"

Just a few months after this, Aaron Crowson built the first cabin in Crowson's Cove (Wears Valley) and moved in with his teen age bride, Jane Barnes. Because they were among the first to receive a land grant in the Valley, they had their choice of where to build their cabin. They chose the spot where the Crowson home stands today.

6. Richard West6 Crowson (Aaron5, William4, John3, William2, Robert1) (#111) was born in Sevier County Tennessee - Wears Valley July 8, 1810. Richard died July 27, 1887 in Sevier County Tennessee - Wears Valley, at 77 years of age. Richard W. Crowson represents the first generation white family to be born in Wears Valley. He is the son of Aaron Crowson, the first white settler in Wears Valley. He and his wife are buried in the Crowson Cemetary.

He married Nancy Ella Mattox in Sevier County Tennessee, February 12, 1837. (Nancy Ella Mattox is #137.) Nancy was born March 26, 1818. Nancy was the daughter of William Mattox and Martha Williams. Nancy died September 11, 1887 in Sevier County Tennessee, at 69 years of age.

Richard West Crowson executed a will on 3/15/1887 and it was probated 8/1/1887, Record 407. This will mentions Mary Wear, Aaron Crowson, West Crowson (also mentioned as R. W. Crowson Jr.), Sarah Elizabeth Crowson, Caroline, and Joseph. Martha Jane, James Wells and William had already died. The will closes with the amusing statement, "Now I appoint my son Aaron Crowson as my Administrator to winde (up) my business. There wont' be much trouble if you all do right. County court need not bind him to bond and security as I am willing to risk him doing right."

(With all the land Aaron owned and left to Richard, this seems to be where the land started dividing and where the W.W. Crowson homeplace eventually ended up with something less than 100 acres at the time of his death.)

7. Richard West7 Crowson {Jr} (Richard West6, Aaron5, William4, John3, William2, Robert1) (#109) was born in Sevier County Tennessee - Wears Valley January 24, 1854. Richard died July 11, 1937 in Sevier County Tennessee - Wears Valley, at 83 years of age.

He married Martha Louise King in Sevier County Tennessee, December 4, 1878. (Martha Louise King is #110.) Martha was born in Sevier County Tennessee January 3, 1861. Martha died June 29, 1955 in Sevier County Tennessee, at 94 years of age. As a child, I Harry Bryan, could remember Grandma Crowson telling us that she remembered her father coming home from the Civil War. Aunt Mable said that Grandma had five other brothers and sisters before her father went to the war and had six more born after he returned.

died June 28, 1898 in Sevier County Tennessee -
Wears Valley, at less than one year of age.

(Benjamin evidently died at birth on October 28, 1896. Ora Jane and Nancy were twins but did survive. Nancy lived four days and died on June 28 and Ora Jane lived about two weeks and died on July 6, 1898. They are buried in the Crowson Cemetery.)

Earl married Addie Emert. Together they had eight children with the firstborn being Ruby Crowson which was of course Mom's first cousin. Ruby married Dad's first cousin, Andy Bryan.

8. William W8 Crowson  Jr. (Richard West7, Richard West6, Aaron5, William4, John3, William2, Robert1) (#69) was born in Sevier County Tennessee May 28, 1881. William died December 21, 1964 in Severville, Tennessee, at 83 years of age. He married Myrtle Tarwater in Sevier County Tennessee, July 24, 1910. (Myrtle Tarwater is #31.) Myrtle was born in Sevier County Tennessee - Wears Valley June 23, 1894. Myrtle was the daughter of Jake A. Tarwater and Martha Jane Mattox. Myrtle died September 11,1986 in Sevier County Tennessee, at 92 years of age.

At 17 years of age Myrtle became the mother of Mable Ethel Crowson in Sevier County Tennessee, August 2,
1911. At 19 years of age Myrtle became the mother of Mattie Lois Crowson in Sevier County Tennessee, 05/18/1914. At 22 years of age Myrtle became the mother of Ben Robert Crowson in Sevier County Tennessee, May 15, 1917. At 25 years of age Myrtle became the mother of Lucy Nellie Crowson in Sevier County Tennessee, December 21, 1919. At 28 years of age Myrtle became the mother of James Aaron Crowson in Sevier County Tennessee, November 17, 1922. At 39 years of age Myrtle became the mother of Billy Mattox Crowson in Sevier County Tennessee, February 21, 1934.

At 30 years of age William became the father of Mable Ethel Crowson in Sevier County Tennessee, August 2, 1911. At 32 years of age William became the father of Mattie Lois Crowson in Sevier County Tennessee, 05/18/1914. At 35 years of age William became the father of Ben Robert Crowson in Sevier County Tennessee, May 15, 1917. At 38 years of age William became the father of Lucy Nellie Crowson in Sevier County Tennessee, December 21, 1919. At 41 years of age William became the father of James Aaron Crowson in Sevier County Tennessee, November 17, 1922. (Rex Fleming is #201.) Rex became the father of Ronnie Fleming March 26, 1941.

County Tennessee May 1, 1910. Dott was the son of William Bates Bryan and Julia Conner. Dott died 10/31/1994 in
Buckingham County Virginia, at 84 years of age. At 20 years of age Dott became the father of Helen Bryan in Sevier County Tennessee, January 4, 1931. At 22 years of age Dott became the father of Betty Jean Bryan in Sevier County Tennessee, 06/05/1932.
